Richard Dean Anderson's Birthday

Richard Dean Anderson first became the fantasy of thousands of single women when he played Dr. Jeff Webber from 1976 to 1982 on TV's General Hospital. But in 1985, he came a fantasy to millions of married women who were nagging their often incompetent and/or lazy  husbands to repair something around the house when he starred as Angus MacGyver - the ultimate Mr. Fixit - on ABC's MacGyver for seven years. MacGyver was a soft-spoken secret agent with an astounding mind who always used  common materials around him to create unorthodox solutions to any problem - in other words - the ideal husband. His heartthrob charisma even affected cartoon characters on
The Simpsons in an episode called "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore" in which he is kidnapped by Selma and Patty Bouvier, Marge Simpson's sister, who drooled over his good looks.

When MacGyver came to an end, Richard served as both star and executive producer of two MacGyver movies for television, Lost Treasure of Atlantis (1993) and MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday (1994). Then Richard satirically reprised his MacGyver role in 2006 when he appeared in a MasterCard commercial during Super Bowl XL in which he cuts through a thick rope with a pine-scented air freshener.

Richard subsequently starred in several TV movies and short-lived TV series when he was given the opportunity to produce and star in the new TV science fiction series Stargate SG-1 as US Air Force Colonel Jack O'Neill which debuted to high rating ratings on Showtime on July 27, 1997 where he attracted primarily a more male audience. In its seventh and eighth seasons,  Richard asked to have his role cut back to allow him to spend more time with his young daughter and subsequently decided to leave the series in 2005.  However, the popular Stargate franchise had several spin-offs in which he appeared including Stargate: Atlantis (2004), and SGU Stargate Universe (2009). At the Air Force Association's 57th Annual Air Force Anniversary Dinner in Washington, DC on September 14, 2004, then Air Force Chief-of-Staff, General John P. Jumper presented Anderson with an award because of his role as star and executive producer of Stargate SG-1, a series which portrayed the Air Force in a positive light from its premiere, and also made Anderson an honorary Air Force brigadier general.

Although we can't match the Air Force Association's tribute to Richard on his birthday, we have a zesty alternate, the MacGyver Cocktail which, after two of these absinthe-laced delights will put you into an alternate Stargate Universe. To see Richard in another alternate universe on his birthday, we suggest Lost Treasure of Atlantis.
