John Albert Elway, Jr.'s Birthday

When one used the term "Comeback Kid," some younger people will think of the hardcore punk band from Winnipeg, Canada of  the same name. Others may think of former US President Bill Clinton, who gave himself that nickname when he declared that "New Hampshire has made Bill Clinton the Comeback Kid" after scandals rocked his initial presidential campaign and he came in second in that primary. However, about 15.9% of all football fans will automatically think of Joe Montana who was often called "Comeback Joe," 24.4 9% will think of Roger Staubach who was o called '"Captain Comeback,"  and 52.7% will swear that the title belongs to John Elway.

John Elway is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in history and was one of the 1980s and 1990s most versatile and prominent quarterbacks in football history. He  was drafted by both the Baltimore Colts and the New York Yankees in 1983. The Colts made John Elway the first player picked in the 1983 NFL draft, but John st refused to play for Baltimore. The Colts traded him to the Denver Broncos, who promptly signed him to a 6-year contract worth $12.7 million. . He retired as statistically the second most prolific passer in NFL history in 1999 and was later name e executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos.

After recording an 8–8 record in 1988, John lead his team to the Super Bowl  to face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIV. However this game ended even worse for the Broncos than their previous Super Bowl losses. San Francisco blew out Denver 55-10, the most lopsided score in Super Bowl history. Eight years later, John led his team to  Super Bowl XXXII to face faced the defending Super Bowl champions Green Bay Packers and went on to defeat the Packers 31–24, finally winning a Super Bowl after three failed attempts for Elway (and four for the team). In 1999, the Broncos repeated this feat and Elway was awarded the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII, throwing for 336 yards and one touchdown with one interception, while also scoring a rushing touchdown in Denver's 34–19 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

When a pop band took the name "Elway", John filed a cease and desist warrant for use of his name. The band's press response: "We have no intention of changing the name again. We love the name, regardless of what connotations are inferred by the listener. Surely, if the Dead Kennedys could become one of punk's most popular bands without incurring litigation, Elway can keep their moniker and continue making so-so music for our dozens of fans to enjoy."

But even after the next few generations may begin to forget John's prowess on the football field, may will still remember his prowess in the kitchen with his ever-popular hamburger soup which has been the most popular recipe in The NFL Family Cookbook and which is the perfect way to celebrate his birthday while watching one of the many old South Park episidos in which he is constantly referenced.
