Janet Damita Jo Jackson's Birthday

Janet is the youngest of the Jackson brood which included Rebbie, Jackie, Tito. Jermaine, LaToya, Randy, and Michael. After the success of the Jackson Five, she signed a deal with  with A&M Records who was counting on her to repeat the success of her brothers. However, he first two albums  were flops. But then she recorded the album Control. It was a megahit, selling five million copies in the US alone, spawning six hits, and the #1 "When I Think of You". Control  was certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and has sold over fourteen million copies worldwide. It won four American Music Awards, from twelve nominations—a record that has yet to be broken—and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 1987 Grammy Awards.

Afterward the success of Control, she fired her greedy father as her manager to fulfill the title of her album and take control of her life. She later commented, "I just wanted to get out of the house, get out from under my father, which was one of the most difficult things that I had to do, telling him that I didn't want to work with him again."It was definitively the right move. Since then, she had made musical  history and holds the record for most weeks spent at #1 on the R&B chart for her 1994 single, "Any Time, Any Place." Having sold over 100 million records, she is ranked as one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music. She is also ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the richest women in entertainment.

Janet also has some acting chops. Her first role was part of Penny Gordon on  TV's Good Times.  She then made a few  appearances on TVs show Diff'rent Strokes as Charlene Dupree. Soon afterwards came her role in  Fame. Then she starred in several films, First was Poetic Justice (1993) Her her second film was, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000) which grossed an estimated $42.7 million dollars in its opening weekend.

However, with all of her talents, Janet is best know for Nipplegate during Superbowl 2004.  At the end of her duet with Justin Timberlake (sample lyric: "Gonna have you naked by the end of this song"), Justin grabbed the front of her costume and yanked the cover off her right breast, which flopped into everyone's view. Justin called it a "wardrobe malfunction" that was "not intentional." No one actually believed him J since MTV which produced the halftime Super Bowl show  promised a "shocking surprise" to their  worldwide audience. The incident caused federal communications regulators to impose a fine of  20 CBS television stations totaling a record $550,000 for violating indecency rules making this the most expense boob job in history. More significantly, it cost Janet a role as as Lena Horne in a her planned biopic  But Lena changed her mind after Nipplegate incident.

So what can be a more appropriate way to celebrate Janet's birthday, than by watching a replay of Superbowl 2004 and downing a few Slippery Nipple Cocktails?
