Mary Sean Young's Birthday

Sean Young making her outburst  at the Director’s Guild Awards

Relatively speaking, this was a major improvement for Sean, who made a complete ass out of herself at last year's Director's Guild Awards when she drunkenly harassed director Julian Schnabel during his acceptance speech.

Mary Sean Young started her professional career as a New York model and a ballet dancer. She eventually broke into films and received her best reviews for playing the replicant Rachael in Blade Runner (1982) and costarring with Kevin Costner in No Way Out (1987). Then she started to earn her reputation as one of Hollywood's most difficult and out-of-control actresses. It all began when she clashed with Oliver Stone over her role as Michael Douglas' wife in Wall Street (1987) after which Stone substantially reduced her role.

In 1989, James Woods, Sean's co-star in The Boost (1988), sued her for harassing him claiming that she had repeatedly threatened him after their affair ended, mailed him photos of dead animals, and left a disfigured doll on his doorstep. Young denied the allegations and settled settled out of court.  Afterward she was reported to have told the press“ [The Woods story] boils down to two people plotting to set me up and make me look like I was a crazy person, partially because of their own mental illness, partially because of revenge,” and “How many actresses do you know whose leading man and leading man’s girlfriend have sued them? And what was Hinckley? What do those two things have in common?” Craziness? “That’s right. And what do you think that does to a person? You either get it together real fast, or you get eaten up by it.”

After that, more problems Sean was cast as Tess Trueheart in Dick Tracy (1990), but was fired over artistic differences. Young later claimed she was fired because she rebuffed Warren Beatty's advances which Warren  denied. She filmed scenes for two Woody Allen films: Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989),  and Alice (1990),  but was cut from both Then came her famous Catwoman escapade In an unsuccessful attempt to win the role as Catwoman in the sequel Batman Returns (1992). Sean made a Catwoman costume and attempted to confront Tim Burton and actor Michael Keaton during production and had to be escorted out. She later appear in her costume on The Joan Rivers Show  to discuss the incident.

Sean has battled alcoholism for years. Alcohol was the likely culprit when she tried to crash the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2006 to which she was not invited. and was was escorted out of the party with considerable media attention through a back door. Sean' s most outrageous drunken episode was at the 2008 Director's Guild Awards when she heckled
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) director Julian Schnabel during his acceptance speech reportedly yelling, "Get on with it," and "Move it on." She also reportedly yelled at a video clip of George Clooney and made some  slurs in French to Marion CotillardShe was quickly ejected by security and tried to throw a punch at them. She voluntarily checked herself into a rehabilitation center the following day.

For Sean's birthday, we recommend serving tipsy cake which is stale sponge or pound cake soaked with liquor. It is a popular Southern dish, often served after dinner as a dessert or at church. The recipe for tipsy cake came to America via the British where it originated in the mid-18th century, when cake or biscuits, alcohol, and custard were combined in a trifle bowl.  Tipsy cake was originally called Tipsy Parson because it presumably lured many a Sunday-visiting preacher off the wagon.  However, with all of the alcohol content, don't offer any to Sean. Just remember her in more sober times by watching No Way Out.

Sean Young heckled Julian Schnabel the moment he walked on stage to accept his medallion. She was quickly 86'd by security and tried to throw a punch at those ejecting her from the venue. She really ruined Julian's moment and it was kind of sad. He looked into the audience and said "Who said that?" She blurted out something else unintelligible and then he said "Perhaps you'd like to finish my speech," said "thank you very much" and started to step away from the podium. He came back,
