Nancy Ann
Grace's Birthday

What does CNN's nearly always pants-suited Nancy Grace have in common with Janet Jackson? Nipplegate - the term that was used for the exposure of Janet Jackson's breast adorned with a nipple shield - later referred to as a "wardrobe malfunction" during the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show. But Nancy's exposed her unshielded nipple during an appearance on a September 2011 episode of Dancing with with the Stars which caused a handful of Nancy Grace haters to file indecency complaints with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), some of whom believed it was intentional.  According to The Smoking Gun who obtained copies of some of the objections sent to the FCC, one viewer from Arlington, Virginia companied that "Nancy Grace had a wardrobe malfunction where her nipple private came out and scared my children. She should be fined."

The outspoken advocate for victims’ rights is the host of Headline News’ (HLN's) top-rated nightly current affairs show, cleverly titled Nancy Grace,  tha6t often focuses on popular criminal cases. Nancy's former career as a prosecutor gives an aggressive edge to her reportage, although her past career has also been controversial . A panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals wrote in a 2005 opinion that Nancy  " played fast and loose" with her ethical duties and failed to "fulfill her responsibilities" as a prosecutor in the 1990 triple murder trial of Herbert Connell Stephens.

Much of her current controversy results from her frequent bullying of guests on her HNN show. Nancy's controversial style has been a popular source of parody on Saturday Night Live and on popular legal-themed entertainment s including  Law & Order which has featured several fictional stories based on real-life events featured in her TV reportage.

So for the hundreds of thousands of Nancy's fans who children are not scared of her nipples, we suggest celebrating her birthday by baking a batch of
Touch-of-Grace biscuits and renting out the collection of 2007's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit TV shows to watch the season 8 finale titled "Screwed"  in which the fully-clothed Nancy plays herself opposite another former attorney and fired talk show host, Star Jones. Our version of this recipe is a littler sweeter to better reflect the real Nancy that her fans love. which we suggest munching while watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit "Screwed" episode.

(
Adapted from CookWise by Shirley O. Corriher)

Ingredients

Nonstick cooking spray
2 cups self-rising flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 TB vegetable shortening
2/3 cup heavy cream
1&1/3 cup buttermilk (or more, as needed)
1 cup bleached all-purpose flour
2 TB butter, melted.

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 425°F, and arrange a shelf slightly below center of oven.
  2. Spray a 9-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the self-rising flour, sugar and salt. Work shortening in with your fingers until there are no large lumps. Gently stir in the cream, then enough buttermilk so that dough resembles wet cottage cheese.
  4. Spread one cup all-purpose flour across a plate or pie pan. Using a medium  ice cream scoop or spoon, place three scoops of dough well apart in flour. Sprinkle flour over each. Flour your hands. Turn the dough in flour to coat, shaping a ball and shaking off excess flour as you work. Place each ball in prepared pan; biscuits should be touching one another. Continue shaping until all dough is used.
  5. Bake until lightly browned, 20 to 25 minutes. Brushed with melted butter. Invert onto a plate, then back onto another. With a knife or spatula, cut quickly between biscuits to make them easy to remove. Serve immediately.

Yield: 12 to 14 biscuits.
